Regulatory halt
The exchange has asked the company a question and is holding the stock until it answers.
Why it happens
Used when an exchange needs more from the issuer — clarification of a press release, a response to unusual activity, confirmation of a rumour, or overdue disclosure.
How long it lasts
The serious one. Often days. A T12 that runs long frequently ends in a delisting path rather than a clean resumption.
What it means for your position
Do not model this as a five-minute pause. Your capital is locked for an unknown period and the reopening print can be catastrophic. If you are short, borrow costs keep accruing while you cannot cover.
